This meeting, which brings together the ten Defence Ministers of the countries of the Western Mediterranean, was an opportunity to take stock of the cooperation activities carried out in 2020 and to adopt an action plan for the year 2021, said the National Defence Administration in a press release. In a speech delivered on the occasion, Loudyi praised the efforts made by the members of the Initiative for the development of regular and pragmatic cooperation mechanisms in many areas of common interest.

On another note, the Minister stressed that to stem the phenomena of illegal immigration and terrorism and tackle their root causes in the countries of the South, it is necessary to favor a global, collaborative and adapted approach, and this, as part of a shared responsibility. The Kingdom of Morocco under the leadership of its Head of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is perfectly in line with this approach. In addition, he welcomed the considerable efforts made by military health bodies, men and women, alongside the civilian authorities to face the Covid-19 pandemic. Their contribution was decisive and well appreciated by the population, said the same source.

During this speech, Loudyi presented his congratulations to the Libyan authorities following the progress and the consensus achieved, resulting from the negotiations of the parties concerned. He reiterated the support of the Kingdom of Morocco, under the aegis of the United Nations, for the efforts of the international community for the stability, territorial integrity and peace of this brotherly country. The meeting was marked by the approval of a joint declaration by the officials of the member countries of the initiative. This declaration recognized, among other things, the invaluable contribution of the armed forces of member states in resilience against the Covid-19 pandemic, terrorism and organized crime. The rotating presidency of the initiative for the year 2021 is entrusted to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, the statement concluded.
